Only four weeks to the festival MUTEK.JP doubles its artist lineup with 23 new additions, which reveal a rich field of artists working at the vanguard of music and visual art that intersect with technology. With a few more gems waiting to be uncovered, the festival lineup this year will end up featuring more than 60 artists representing 21 different nationalities, in exclusive performances and numerous premieres—making the festival both a machine for revelation and a contemporary snapshot of global perspectives in a local context.

The Nocturne series presents the centerpiece of MUTEK.JP’s festival program showcasing the most impactful and experiential live performances exploring the intersection of electronic music, digital art and technology.

The A/Visions program showcases the most innovative and forward-thinking audiovisual performances, which explore the multisensory intersection of art and technology. For the opening night the A/Visions 1 program will return to its 2016 venue, former cinema turned live house WWW in Shibuya. The A/Visions 2-4 program will take place in Miraikan’s immersive dome theater, showcasing a wide range of audiovisual pieces by local and international creators.

The Play series is a laboratory for established and up-and-coming artists to endeavour in audible and visible experimentation strongly grounded in the intersection of art, science, music and technology. Two installments of Play will take place on Friday, November 2, and Saturday, November 3, in Miraikan’s 7F Innovation Hall.

The Ambience series is a new addition to the MUTEK.JP program, which provides a stark contrast to the rest of the festival program. With a focused on showcasing new and established ambient musicians, the program seeks to provide a space for introspection and relaxation. Ambience will take place on November 4, turning Miraikan’s Innovation Hall into a space of introspection and relaxation.
